Living Green Olympia: Olympia's Wooden Boat Fair - a Perfect Mother's Day Outing!

Olympia's Wooden Boat Fair - a Perfect Mother's Day Outing!

Yesterday was a gorgeous day in Olympia - and spending it downtown at the annual Wooden Boat Fair was a terrific way to spend Mother's Day!!

Wooden Boat fair in Olympia

So many cool boats were lined up at the Percival landing boardwalk area, including many that encouraged people to come aboard and check out the detail.

Cool detail on the wooden boats

Some of the boats had history galore, from the Sand Man which is now in its 100th year, or another boat whose info sheet showed that it was used as a patrol boat in World War 2.

The food booths were bustling with people getting everything from shrimp cocktails to Fried Twinkies (no, I didn't try that one!!).  And the booths of jewelry, artwork, clothing and just about everything else were a popular stop for the moms in the crowd to browse along.

The Olympic Mountains shone with snowy tops in the distance and the sunshine and welcome warmth had the crowd in good spirits - gotta enjoy a beautiful day in Olympia when we are lucky enough to get one!!

Hi Nancy!  Although I am in WA quite often I still haven't visited Olympia.  I'm always doing the "real estate" thing in Seattle and Snohomish.  It looks absolutely beautiful so I need to get out there!  100 year old wood boats.  How cool is that?!  Everything is fiberglass anymore so it's nice to see people preserving and maintaining historical boats.  Thanks for sharing!

Hi Andy - yes, it was an outstanding Mother's Day - so much fun to actually have a warm sunny day, the boat fair to enjoy & my son & granddaughter to share it with too!  Watch for a Wordless Wednesday photo of "Captain Addy" - she's not quite 3 but pretty sure she can "drive a boat!!"

Yes, Nevin - you really must stop in Olympia next time you come to Washington!!  I love it here - let me know when you're coming & I'll give you the tour!
