Living Green Olympia: Remembering my Leafy Green Secret Hideaway!

Remembering my Leafy Green Secret Hideaway!

While I was taking photos of a new listing this morning, I found myself more and more mesmerized by the large tree in the front yard, with the kind of low, plentiful branches that just call out to be climbed!  Do kids still climb trees?  When I was growing up, we had an enormous maple tree in the front yard with lots of branches low enough to start a climb.  I LOVED that tree!  It provided me a leafy green draped perch where I could sit, hidden from sight, and daydream.

A tree for climbing!

Once in a while I would get really adventurous and climb a little too high.  Then I would wonder for a bit if I was going to be able to get back down again without calling for help!  But somehow, a faltering foot at a time to a lower branch, and a tight grip on each limb along the way - and I would make it back to the ground safely.

Did I mention that I LOVED that tree?  It was my secret place, my place to sit and enjoy the song of birds around me, a place to pretend, and a place to test my physical skills and strength at climbing up and down.  And in the fall, it shed enough leaves to make gigantic piles to jump in over and over again.

Yes, that tree was special to a young girl - and that tree this morning brought back a whirlwind of good memories of the days when a branch beckoned and I already had one foot up on it to climb high, higher, highest!

Doesn't it?  I hadn't thought about the big maple I climbed as a kid for quite a while, but this tree sure brought back the memories - I kinda wanted to go climb it!!  :)
