Living Green Olympia: Sand in the City in Olympia - Coming this Weekend!

Sand in the City in Olympia - Coming this Weekend!

Sand in the City will be happening this coming weekend in downtown Olympia!  No we don't actually have sandy beaches even though we do have Budd Inlet waterfront - but the sand sculptures will be amazing, amusing and well worth a trip to downtown Olympia to view.

Here are some examples from last year - first the Kangaroo Court

Or the giant crab claw capturing a tugboat - EEK!!  Good thing it's just sand!

I love the sand art. I have some good pics somewhere from a fair I went to last year. The guy that did it was a genius!

Hi Lizette!  Yes, I am always just amazed at the creations - so elaborate and detailed.  Here at our event the different sculptures are made by competing local businesses or groups but with master sand sculptors assisting and teaching them how to do this magic.

Nancy, It always amazed me how someone can create such beauty with sand (and ice).  And they are temporary creations.   A different approach mentally and emotionally from other more permanent forms of art I would imagine.  Have fun this weekend!

Thanks Gloria!  And is truly is amazing to create these sculptures just so everyone can enjoy them for a brief time!  Luckily photos can capture the cool artwork to keep.
