Living Green Olympia: Flavors of Fall Farmers Market in Olympia

Flavors of Fall Farmers Market in Olympia

Yes, we are moving rapidly into fall, but Olympia Farmers Market is still going strong with bountiful harvests of veggies and fruit.

Autumn and apples are always connected in my mind, and the abundant choices make it pretty necessary to buy a couple of each - just to see which ones are the favorites (the market stands do offer sample tastes, too, so you can decide on some varieties without buying everything available if you want).

The hot colors of these peppers remind me of the blending of the sunny heat of summer into brilliant autumn leaf color.

And these cranberry beans were just too amazing looking not to get a photo!

Nancy, This harvest of pictures makes my mouth water!!  What do cranberry beans taste like?  They look interesting!

Nice market in your area!    Fall Harvest is a treasure, in the Pacific Northwest, that's true!

Nancy, I don't think I've ever seen cranberry beans.  I love strolling across farmers markets, there's always something interesting to discover!

Cranberry Beans?  I've never heard of them but they look beautiful!  Do you use them as any other bean?  The Farmer's Market in Olympia Washington looks like a WONDERFUL place to grab all of your local produce and what a way to support your local community!

Apples are my favorite. Apple pie is better. Here's the time of year when the good stuff comes out. Yummy.

Gotta 'fess up - we have so many green beans from our garden that I took the pic of the cranberry beans but didn't actually buy any.  The woman at the booth says they taste pretty much like normal beans - so I might have to get some next weekend & see!

And yes, Robert - baking some apple pie is also on the to do list :)

Apple pie time is my favorite time of the year! Great photos, great incentive to get busy with some pies, too!

Besides apple pies I love making baked apples or apple sauce - guess I better stock up!
