Living Green Olympia: Gray Skies - But Blazing Color!

Gray Skies - But Blazing Color!

This time of year the skies begin to offer shades of gray, and then a little more gray.  But the brilliant color of autumn leaves lights up those gray skies.  The colors seem to echo the warmth we had in the summer, as well as hint at the warmth just around the corner with holiday lights, cozy fireplaces and get togethers with those we love.

Fall color in Olympia WA

So bring on the gray skies - I guess it is that time of year - but we will enjoy every glimpse of orange, gold, & red in the trees for as long as possible.

And we'll remember how a glimpse of warm color brightens both a gray sky & our spirits.

The gray skies just make that color on the trees just pop... Absolutely gorgeous.

Absolutely my favorite time of the year - just because of sights like your beautiful photo!

Hi Stacey - I think you are right on that the contrast is part of what makes this so gorgeous a sight.

Thanks Kate - I love this time of year too, and the colors this year seem exceptionally nice (though I think I said that last fall too !)  :)

We haven't even started to lose leaves yet in our area.

We still have quite a few on the trees yet, too - though it was pretty rainy & windy last night so a bunch blew down...  Hoping for another week or so of the color before we see them all on the ground!

The bright red and orange leaves have hit the ground, making a barely a sound. The yellow and gold oak leaves are almost ready to be raked into mounds! Yet beauty is still all around!

We had the same thing this morning, then a rainbow appeared to top it off.  Here's the pic I snapped (Arvada, CO).

Wow Joetta - you captured a beauty of a shot with that rainbow and the glow of the golden leaves - just wow!!

I was just thinking how beautiful it is with all the colors and how soon it will be just bare tree limbs.  more leaves on the ground for our little ones to play in I guess :)

Our skies look like that today, although our trees are just beginning to turn colors; November is our colorful month here.

Hi Sandra - It is beautiful now - but I know Addy thinks stomping on the crunchy leaves on the ground is lots of fun too - nice that kids get the whole point of enjoying the moment!

Lottie, I think this month is usually our really colorful one, but it does vary by a fair amount from year to year - you have that beauty still to look forward to it sounds like!

Hi Lizette - I love this time of year & trying to capture the colors of the trees!  The hardest thing for me is I keep wanting to take pictures of the trees along the highway between my house & my office - but while I 'm driving, not really a good option!!  :)
