Living Green Olympia: Cinderella Houses - Or Why Rehab Projects Make Me Smile

Cinderella Houses - Or Why Rehab Projects Make Me Smile

I love working with buyers, and usually find that buyers who intend to occupy the home they buy are really satisfying because of the excitement they bring to the process.  But I think I have added another favorite, soul satisfying category to my business - and that is what I think of as Cinderella houses.

You know those dreary, neglected, and sadly run down homes that have gone through a foreclosure and are on the market needing way too much to appeal to just every buyer out there.  But enter the investor buyer who is willing and able to purchase these needy homes, get them repaired, remodeled, updated, beautified and ready for brand new occupants - now THAT is something I can get excited about too!!

The neighbors get pretty excited, too, and stop by frequently during the rehab project to express their relief that the formerly derelict house on their street is being transformed so it can be loved again.  So yes, the Cinderella houses give me that same deep satisfaction as they become not only an improved house, but part of an improved neighborhood and community.  Very cool!!

(And this Cinderella house will be finished and back on the market soon!!)

What a fantastic term, Nancy!  Absolutely spot-on too.   With a little love, hard work, and creativity these properties can be homes again.  Glad to hear that you are seeing that type of action out your way ...

Thanks Gene - and it is funny since I used to think that working with investor buyers was fine as a business thing, but that it lacked the satisfaction of seeing a buyer's excitement at buying a house to live in.  Gotta say though that seeing these Cinderella house transformations gives me PLENTY of satisfaction!!

God bless those who see the opportunity in those houses that have been sadly neglected!  I love the way you term them, cindarella houses :)!  Perfect!

Hi Brenda - one of my investor buyers really gets passionate about the rewards of helping return these neglected homes to ones that someone will love to live in again - so much fun to see the transformations!!

Nancy,

Cherise and I like when the fixer uppers get that much needed face lift from the vision of an investor... g

Gordon, it is great when the vision, the ability and the desire come together to let that face lift become reality.

Good Morning Nancy, we have an abundance of homes that have been neglected for many reasons.  You have an excellent 'term' in your title.

Thanks Dan! I love seeing the transformation of neglected homes and wish it could happen even more since the whole neighborhood suffers when neglected vacant homes just slowly go downhill.
