Living Green Olympia: Schilter Family Farm Olympia WA - Pumpkin Patch (And So Much More)

Schilter Family Farm Olympia WA - Pumpkin Patch (And So Much More)

Schilter Family Farm

The nippy autumn air and the red, gold and orange leaves mean fall has arrived in Olympia, WA - so it is time to head to Schilter Family Farm to check out their pumpkin patch and the multitude of activities available!

I got to tag along today with my granddaughter's preschool as they visited the farm, and oh boy, did those 3 and 4 year olds have fun!  (OK - we parents and grandparents did too).

Pumpkin field

First up was a chance to ride around the farm perched on bales of straw in the tractor pulled wagon.  This was a great vantage point to view the pumpkin fields and enjoy the luck of having a sunny day for this outing.

Wagon Ride

Next everyone wandered among the pumpkins to select just the right one to take home and decorate for Halloween.  My granddaughter wanted a little one, and after several ones she decided were NOT the size she had in mind, she found one that passed muster.  Not too big, not too small, but JUST right!

Perfect pumpkin

The kids also got to try to find their way through the maze of bales in a barn, and it sure looked to me like a few of them thought it was more fun to explore every single dead end path!

Pet the little pigs!

Schilter Family Farm  has a petting farm area where the kids got to check out which was the very softest of the barn kittens, pat some little pigs or small goats, or cluck at the hens perched out of reach.  Once everyone had patted and stroked and admired the animals, it was hand washing time - and then an attempt to round them all up for photos.

Climbing & Sliding

Hard to corral preschoolers when there is still more to see and do.  The climbing structure out of bales with a really fast slide in the middle was a huge hit, as was the kid size tractor they could ride around on.

Schilter Family Farm also has fresh corn, gourds, apples, decorative pumpkins - lots to select to take home to either eat or decorate with.

And it looked like once the kids had eaten some lunch and maybe taken small naps, it was going to be time to carve those pumpkins!

For fall family fun or to find your pumpkins for Halloween, don't miss Schilter Family Farm!!  (And plan on spending some time - there is a lot to see and do!)

Great pictures, Nancy!  I've never seen a slide coming out of hay before!  Looks like a great place!

Thanks Sharon! I hadn't seen a slide like that before either - it was a really fast one and a very big hit with the kids!
