Living Green Olympia: Honey, What Color Did We Paint the Living Room?? Lowes Can Help You Keep Track

Honey, What Color Did We Paint the Living Room?? Lowes Can Help You Keep Track

Painting supplies

Quick now - do you know the name of the paint color you used in your living room?  And do you know what year it was you replaced the dishwasher?  OK, maybe a few of you are those highly organized folks who DO know and have a wonderfully color coordinated filing system of all your household receipts ready to access easily.  But....hopefully I'm not the only one that tends to be that organized.

Lowes has come up with a clever tool with their MyLowes card for tracking purchases.  If you have ever hunted in vain in the garage for an old can of paint to see what color it was you painted in the living room (yes, we just did that), or rummaged through the file cabinet trying to remember how you would have filed that new dishwasher receipt - this new tool is for you!

Each purchase you make at Lowes registers in your online account with a swipe of your card so that you will have an easy compilation of what and when for all those home improvement projects.

This is also handy for sellers getting ready to sell, as inevitably when you think something is almost new....turns out it was actually 5 years ago that you got it.

There is no cost for this service, and I just used it to register the paint we bought for our living room - sigh of relief that I don't have to figure out where that really good place to store the information might be.  I already know that next time I need to know it, whatever I thought made sense today will not be where I think of to look.

But MyLowes will come to the rescue with the info I need all nicely organized!  How cool is that?

Hi Nancy - It seems that Lowes has thought of a great service that will help many people.

Hi Marc - I think so too!  One of my investor clients first told me about this as he was finding it really useful to track his rehab purchases.  And now I am using it for my own household too - very cool!

I saw this yesterday and I thought that was the coolest idea. I know I have certainly forgotten a color or two in my time. Having to paint a complete room because you forgot a paint color is certainly expensive when you need only a few brush strokes.

HI Todd - I think it is going to be a very cool way to track paint colors and other home improvement purchases (and I guess it gets me off the hook from figuring out a more effective filing system at home - right??)

This is brilliant and a great way to get customers to keep returning to their store!

Hi Patty & Richard - I agree that Lowes has a great service with this way to track and remember what exactly it was that you bought when you are trying to remember colors, brands, plants etc.

Color plays an important part on the psychology of how we relate to the interior as well.

I painted an entire house with lowes products. Called today and they could only tell me the brand i used they had no record of the color and said they do not keep track. The color is also not listed on the receipt i have.

Hmmmm Wendell. Sorry to hear that you couldn’t get the info on paint color. Had you had them scan your purchase on your Mylowes card when you purchased the paint? ( It’s a separate card from their credit card. ). I usually can just look up past purchases on the mylowes website - but now will have to go look to see if it does still have paint colors from my past purchases!

I found the same thing Wendell. It tells me the type of paint and the base color but not the tint. I was very disappointed as I feel this would be very easy for them to add to their tracking system for customers.

Yesterday I purchased 1 gallon of solid deck stain and 1 gallon of exterior paint. The cashier scanned My Lowes, and scanned the paint mix color bar codes, but neither of them shows the color on My Lowes.

I threw my cans out because it was being tracked. What a pain.
