Living Green Olympia: Spooner Strawberries - NOW It's Feelin' Like Summer!

Spooner Strawberries - NOW It's Feelin' Like Summer!

Although this morning was a bit cloudy and drizzly in Olympia, a stop at Spooner Strawberry Farm on Yelm Highway has me believing that summer isn't just a hopeless dream.  Strawberries are ripe, direct from the field - and so, so yummy!

Strawberries

I bought a half flat today so there would be some to share at the office and plenty to gorge on at home.  I've learned in the past that buying one or two pints only means I will be making an immediate repeat stop because I will have devoured them before getting home.  And I will still be planning on a full flat soon for making freezer jam!

Right now, the berries are only available at the farm on Yelm Hwy, but very soon the other stands around town will open also, along with their booth at Farmer's Market.

So who cares if the sun is out or not (OK fine I do care a little...) - I got a big taste of summer this morning with delicious, sweet strawberries from Spooner Farms!

I haven't bought any local strawberries yet this year, but I am sure looking forward to it!

Hi Sharon - these are first of the season for me.  I've bought some at the grocery store the last few weeks (having trouble waiting), but nothing comes close to local, freshly picked berries!!

Nancy ... you're such a tease!  Strawberries are my favorite and these do look good.  Nothing tastes like summer, you're so right about that ...

Enjoy 'em, my friend ...

Oh Yum!  I grew up in L.A. on store-bought strawberries and didn't like them one bit. Later, I moved up to San Luis Obispo County and found out what strawberries are SUPPOSED to taste like!  fresh picked by local growers is the ONLY way to go. Enjoy!

Nancy that looks sooooo good!   We don't have many markets like this during the summer months as it's just too hot.  This makes me want to create something with strawberries soon!  Yummy!

Jenny, you are SO right that fresh picked the very day you're eating them - no way to equal that flavor!
