Living Green Olympia: Secret Seasoning Conspiracy Theory

Secret Seasoning Conspiracy Theory

I have to admit that I am in that group of people who just do NOT get the allure of Black Friday shopping - the whole getting up before daylight to join a herd of people trying to save a buck....I'm not a big fan of giving up sleep unless it's for something really worth while, and I don't love crowds either.  Plus in looking over the very, very fat stack of advertisements in yesterday's paper, I realized there wasn't anything in there that I can't live without.

Certainly for some it is a fun tradition - even some of the otherwise sane members of my family and close friends do trek out to the Black Friday sales and seem to enjoy it??

But I now have a theory of what is going on with all this Black Friday craziness (I had been pondering after reading a story this morning about some locals who started camping outside Best Buy on TUESDAY afternoon!!  Seriously people???)

There must be a secret seasoning cleverly sprinkled into the turkey or the dressing - or maybe the pumpkin pie.  And that secret seasoning clearly makes logical, sane people decide that it makes perfect sense to abandon their nice comfy warm beds in the middle of the night to go stand in long lines to save a few dollars on something they don't really need.

Secret seasoning

Well that is my theory anyway - what's yours??  (And did you consume any of that secret seasoning and head out shopping??)

Full disclosure:  I might have accidentally gotten just a pinch of the secret seasoning because I do think I will stop by a local holiday bazaar in a bit....does that count?

Nancy -you may be on to something. I understand if there are some who count on this. I've never really studied the sales to see if uh really can save a lot on something g you want but not catching me out there.

Don't have a theory, but I'm certainly not going to be joining any of those people today or any other black Friday in the future. I need my beauty sleep!

Kathy - I don't know either how much they save, but don't think it'd be enough to get me excited about the crowds and crazy hours regardless.

No way would I be out there on Black Friday - listening to NPR the other day - they said only 18% of the population shops on Black Friday. Seems like a small, but active bunch. :)

Hi Debb! What an interesting statistic - so I wonder if that 18% just buys a WHOLE lot of stuff or if the entire Black Friday shopping thing is blown up by the media way beyond the reality?? The 18% sounds about right for people I know (at least only about 18% would admit to shopping in the wee hours!)
