Living Green Olympia: Moving Coordinator - Not a Bad Idea!

Moving Coordinator - Not a Bad Idea!

Recently a client of mine asked me if there is such a thing as a moving coordinator - like a wedding coordinator but to help people organize for a move.  I kind of laughed at first, but kept thinking about it all day.  I realized that he is not the only one who has lived somewhere long enough that the very idea of preparing to move is so overwhelming that you end up frozen in place.  Earlier this year I helped an elderly woman sell the home she had been in for many, many years so she could downsize into a 55 and older neighborhood - her entire family was paralyzed for a bit by the huge task ahead - what things would fit in the new house?  What could she not bear to part with?  Who could help with the actual physical work of the move so the valuables would be safely transported to the new home?

So after all of this perked around in my head for a couple of days, I realized there really should be such a thing as a moving coordinator and that it sounded like something I would like to be able to offer my clients who are preparing for a move.

I have been compiling all of my resource material accumulated over the years to be able to provide lots of "Timeline to get ready to move" "Tips for moving with children" " Tips for moving with pets" Resource lists of where to get valuables appraised, movers, storage units, etc etc etc.  I realized that there are lots of ways to make an overwhelming task manageable - and like many things, it can be easier to help someone else through the process than it would be to get ready to move myself!

So yes, there is such a thing as a moving coordinator - & I am ready to help my clients prepare to move so that they can concentrate on the excitement and not get bogged down with stress.
